A brief overview:

Much to the Editor's surprise, the first sample issue of Country Goss' was very well received. The response from dancers, instructors, record companies and advertisers pushed (this) the 2nd issue to 8 - A4 pages with letters, festival news, advertising, class listings, CD giveaways, tour news and music reviews. And with the Tamworth Country Music Festival just weeks away, dancers were keen for news and information.

Audrey Alison and her grandson Luis Riveros prepare for Tamworth.

Steve Reid from Yesterday and Today Records joins as a regular contributor with country music and CD reviews and there is excitement around a catchy little techno country tune called Tighten Up Your Pants (click for a sneak peek) by Audio Murphy.

The video clip of Tighten Up Your Pants features singer and yodeler Melinda Schneider along with a techno throb of line dancers including Terry and Robert from ALD, Mark from Southern Cross, Gary from Sydney Bootscooters plus Simon and Michael from Illawarra Bootscooters. Little was anybody to know the track would end up a huge hit on the dance scene but would create controversy within the Australian country music industry. More on that in the next issue.

Channel 10 News covers line dancing at the Harold Park Hotel in Glebe, NSW with a huge promo on the very popular Sunday afternoon "bootscoot" sessions. Click on the video link and check out the faces and footage from 30 years ago!

There is news on the upcoming Sydney Farm Hand Appeal, some terrific letters in the Bushwire and a shout out to the Wainuiomata (Wellington, NZ) Line Dancers who will be part of the 1995 LD Masters Championship in Wanganui, NZ.

Pandarra Trading Company joins Country Goss' to support dancers with everything imaginable in western style clothing and accessories, and JP’S Hifivision zeros in on a great opportunity to promote wireless mic systems for Instructors.

With preparations well underway for the 1995 Australian Country Line Dance Championships in Tamworth, enquiries are coming thick and fast from dancers regarding accommodation. The Editor offers some alternate suggestions other than the more expensive hotel/motel listings.

A reader comments on the huge Rugby League Grand Final Line Dance Spectacular featuring Lee Kernaghan and we have managed to uncover some grand old footage of this fabulous event (above). Check it out!

Country Goss' welcomes The Phantom, a shadowy figure if there ever was one. The Phantom will be at his devious best lurking and listening to the whispers and hushed tones of those within the country music industry and salivating at the thought of unleashing its rumours, half truths, gossip and scandals. Has Country Goss' created a monster?

Who is The Phantom?
Who is The Phantom?

And do you remember what song you were singing and dancing to in November 1995? It could have been "Country Down To My Soul" by Lee Roy Parnell and the dance "Hot Tamales".

Choreographed by Neil Hale of the USA, Hot Tamales was a 64 count intermediate dance with the wild 8 count shoulder shimmies and courtesy of Div's Line Dancing Directory, we have provided the Step Sheet below.

'What's On' class listings more than double, and with interest from interstate, a name change for this column is being considered. Next time around, we look at an even BIGGER January/February issue and it's fair to say that Jan/Feb did have quite a few people scratching their heads at the time! Why?
